Validate CSV Before Import: how it works
How it works
- Open the file and read its detected CSV format. Doctor lists each of its nine quality categories, even when the count is zero.
- Follow affected row references to inspect uneven rows, blank rows, whitespace, duplicates, mixed line endings and values that may be risky in another application.
- If a supported repair fits, preview it before applying. Otherwise use the report to decide what to fix in your source or destination; save only after review.
What stays exactly the same
Running Doctor only reports findings; it does not rewrite the CSV. The table remains available for inspecting the affected rows.
Unedited records keep their bytes in Preserve output, except when removing the last row adjusts the new last row's terminator to match the original final-newline style. A quality report does not guarantee downstream acceptance.
Limits
Files are uploaded to the cellsmith.app server and held in memory, not kept only in your browser. The web version accepts UTF-8 text files up to 32 MiB each. Files expire 30 minutes after the last activity; opening another file or restarting the server also clears the current document and unsaved work.
Questions about this tool
Does this validate my database schema?
No. Doctor checks CSV structure and content patterns; it does not know the rules of your target database.
Are zero-count checks shown?
Yes. All nine categories are listed with counts so you can distinguish a clear check from an omitted check.
Will a flagged formula be changed?
No. Formula-like text is identified as a potential risk, not automatically modified.
